by Raymond Mears, Wild Food Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Wild Food books, FOOD & DRINK / COOKERY. Ray Mears has travelled the world discovering how native people manage to live on just what nature provides. It always frustrated him not knowing how our own ancestors fed themselves. We know they were hunter-gatherers, but what did they eat day to day? How did they find their calories throughout the year? What were their staple foods? Where did they get their vitamins? How did they ensure their bodies received enough variety? In this book he travels back ten thousand years to a time before farming to learn how our ancestors found, prepared and cooked their food. This extraordinary journey reveals many new possibilities many of the same food sources are still there for us if only we know where to look. Through his knowledge of the countryside and the research conducted specially for this book with archaeo-botanist Gordon Hillman, we learn many new, useful and often surprising things about the amazingly rich natural larder that still surrounds us.

The Yorkshire Forager

by Alysia Vasey, The Yorkshire Forager Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Yorkshire Forager books, Alysia Vasey's earliest memories are of walking alongside her grandfather as they explored the West Yorkshire moors that they called home. As an adult, this love for wild things stayed with her, even as she learnt that her family's knowledge of edible plants were a legacy of a much darker time during the Second World War. After leaving Yorkshire in search of adventure, Alysia was eventually guided home by her motto: Be true to yourself and you will become the person you were meant to be. She left her traditional path and took a far wilder journey that gradually evolved into one of the UK's most successful foraging businesses, supplying some of the greatest chefs in the world and the best restaurants in the country Her achievements are the result of a bit of luck, a lot of knowledge and a huge amount of self-belief. Here, Alysia also shares not only her story, but also her vast knowledge of UK plant lore. A true Yorkshirewoman, Alysia tells it like it is, and The Yorkshire Forager is full of tales of her family's adventures and misadventures in their search for top quality ingredients - you never know who you might meet in the woods - making this book as entertaining as it is informative.

Pass The Pickled Porcupine

by Graham Chalmers, Pass The Pickled Porcupine Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Pass The Pickled Porcupine books, An eclectic collection of essays about fifty different types of wild food, which also detail Graham’s adventures in foraging, hunting, fishing and cooking. These range from collecting blackberries in the hedgerows of southern England to hunting Cape buffalo in the dusty dawn of some distant African thorn scrub. These interesting and entertaining stories are drawn from the colourful life of a very experienced recreational forager and excellent camp cook, whose enduring philosophy is that the finest, most delicious food is foraged, hunted or caught in the wild. Graham Chalmers was born in Zimbabwe in 1957 and grew up with the rare privilege of access to African wilderness areas. He is an expert hunter, fisherman and forager with experience of both the pleasures and dangers of the challenging African environment. Graham left Zimbabwe after finishing school education and immigrated to South Africa, where he went on to study for a business degree and post-graduate law degree. He practiced commercial law and was awarded fellowship of the Association of Arbitrators. During his time in South Africa he developed a keen interest in game cooking, often using innovative combinations of ingredients and unconventional methods of preparation to secure good results. Graham then moved to the Southern Cape coastal region, which gave him the opportunity to hone his skills as a coastal forager and angler. He moved to the UK in 2000 and he now lives in Surrey. Graham has continued his interest in wild-sourced food in Britain and on his various travels through Europe and America.

The Wild Food Trailguide

by Alan Hall, The Wild Food Trailguide Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Wild Food Trailguide books, This new edition of a book that Explorer magazine called "an indispensable field guide to the most common edible plants of North America" offers 85 plants that are not only edible, they are truly worth eating. This guide is as much fun to browse as it is to use. Many of the plants we call weeds were brought here by settlers. Our grandparents still knew where to find them, how to use them and when to harvest. They are not confined to the wilderness but can be found in your backyard or along roadsides -- even on urban expressway margins and vacant lots. More than 25 uses -- from salads and seasonings to jams and pies -- can add variety to meals and really cut rising food costs. This guide makes harvesting nature's free bounty sure, safe and easy. It is, as noted by the New York Times, "extremely well organized." Each plant is described in clear, nontechnical terms and each is illustrated. The text clearly spells out the part of the plant that is edible, when to collect it and how to prepare it.
