Last Days Of The Concorde

by Samme Chittum, Last Days Of The Concorde Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Last Days Of The Concorde books, The gripping true tale of a devastating plane crash, the investigation into its causes, and the race to prevent similar disasters in the future. On July 25, 2000, a Concorde, the world's fastest passenger plane, was taking off from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris when it suddenly burst into flames. An airliner capable of flying at more than twice the speed of sound, the Concorde had completed 25 years of successful flights, whisking wealthy passengers--from diplomats to rock stars to corporate titans--between continents on brief and glamorous flights. Yet on this fateful day, the chartered Concorde jet, en route to America, crashed and killed all 109 passengers and crew onboard and four people on the ground. Urgent questions immediately arose as investigators scrambled to discover what had gone wrong. What caused the fire? Could it have been prevented? And, most urgently, was the Concorde safe to fly? Last Days of the Concorde addresses these issues and many more, offering a fascinating insider's look at the dramatic disaster, the hunt for clues, and the systemic overhauls that followed the crash.

Destination Disaster

by Andrew J. Brookes, Destination Disaster Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Destination Disaster books, On any given day, more than four million people around the world take to the air on one of 38,000 flights operated daily by the airlines. The reassuring news is that the fatal accident rate per million flights for large aircraft operations is now about half what is was 10 years ago. It is therefore 20 times safer to get airborne In a commercial airliner than it is to drive to the airport in the first place. More people die annually from falling down the stairs than they do from fatal air crashes. None the less, aircraft accidents do occur, and in the sheer scale of the horror and devastation wrought, it is sometimes hard to bring these statistics into focus. Destination Disaster is Andrew Brookes' latest investigation into the causes and effects of aircraft disasters. It is a responsible and detailed analysis of some of the most noteworthy of recent aircraft accidents. The past few years have been overshadowed by a number of major disasters - some accidental, others deliberate - and the book examines in detail the factors behind these various events.Among significant disasters covered are the loss of the Air France Concorde In Paris in 2000, the crash of golfer Payne Stewart's Learjet In 1999 and the momentous events of 11 September 2001. Deliberately examined in a non-controversial and objective way, the accidents and disasters recorded in Destination Disaster paradoxically emphasise just how safe contemporary flight is. However, as in all things, there remains an element of risk, and the book is a fascinating examination of the issues of safety raised in contemporary aviation.

The Crash Of Piedmont Airlines Flight 22

by Paul D. Houle, The Crash Of Piedmont Airlines Flight 22 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Crash Of Piedmont Airlines Flight 22 books, Against a backdrop of inadequate funding, misplaced priorities and a lack of manpower, American commercial aviation in the 1960s was in a perilous state. In July 1967, when a Piedmont Airlines Boeing 727 collided with a Cessna 310 over Hendersonville, North Carolina, killing 82 people, the industry was in crisis. Congress called hearings on aviation safety and government and union officials pressured President Lyndon Johnson to request increased funding for aviation safety. But the National Transportation Safety Board's probe into the crash was flawed from the start. The investigative team was made up of individuals whose companies had certain interests in the outcome. The lead investigator was the brother of the vice president of Piedmont Airlines. In an effort to shift blame from the government and Piedmont, critical conversations recorded on tape never made it into the NTSB's report. Maintenance and training records, as well as industry warnings of the 727's operational limitations, were also omitted. This book reveals the true story of the investigation: what was left out and why.

by Hank Williamson, editor, Air Crash Investigations Jammed Rudder Kills 132 The Crash Of Usair Flight 427 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Air Crash Investigations Jammed Rudder Kills 132 The Crash Of Usair Flight 427 books, The Boeing 737 has a history of rudder system-related anomalies, including numerous instances of jamming. A number of accidents and incidents were the result of the airplanes' unexpected movement of their rudders. During the course of the four and a half year investigation of the crash of USAir Flight 427 near Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, killing 132 people, the NTSB discovered that the PCU's dual servo valve could jam as well as deflect the rudder in the opposite direction of the pilots' input, due to thermal shock, caused when cold PCUs are injected with hot hydraulic fluid. This finally solved the mystery of sudden jamming of the rudders of this aircraft.

Download Air Crash Investigations Captain In Panic The Crash Of Armavia Flight 967 books, On 2 May 2006 Armavia Flight RNV 967, an Airbus A320, was on its way from Zvartnots (Yerevan, Armenia) to Adler (Sochi, Russia). There were 113 occupants on board: 105 passengers (including 5 children and 1 baby), 2 pilots,1 aircraft engineer and 5 flight attendants. Upon approaching Sochi there was confusion in regard to the weather for the scheduled landing. Finally the captain decided to return to Zvartnots, a short while later he reconsidered his decision and started the approach to Sochi after all. Just before final landing air traffic control told the captain to abort the landing. At 22:13 the aircraft struck the water, it broke up on impact, killing all aboard. The investigation concluded that the crash of Armavia Flight 967 was a Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT), specifically water, while conducting a climbing manoeuvre, after an aborted approach, along with inadequate control inputs from the Captain to Sochi airport at night with weather conditions below landing minimums for runway 06.

Download Air Crash Investigations Pilot Error The Crash Of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 books, On 25 January 2010, at 00:41:30 UTC, Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 409, a Boeing 737-800, on its way from Beirut to Addis Abeba, crashed just after take-off from Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, into the Mediterranean Sea about 5 NM South West of Beirut International Airport. All 90 persons on board were killed in the accident. The investigation concluded that the probable causes of the accident were pilot errors due to loss of situational awareness. Ethiopian Airlines refutes this conclusion. Other factors that could have lead to probable causes are the increased workload and stress levels that have most likely led to the captain reaching a situation of loss of situational awareness similar to a subtle incapacitation and the F/O failure to recognize it or to intervene accordingly. Ethiopian Airlines refutes the investigation. According to the airline the final report was biased, lacking evidence, incomplete and did not present the full account of the accident.
