The Many Faces Of Judaism by George Kalinsky, Rabbis Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Rabbis books, From the lens of world-renowned photographer George Kalinsky comes this look at one hundred leading and influential rabbis of the twenty-first century. Through lush and brilliant photographs and essays by the rabbis in their own words we see the multifaceted people they are: leaders, teachers, preachers, scholars, spiritual innovators, chaplains, as well as fathers, mothers, avid hobbyists, and professionals. Rabbis: The Many Faces of Judaism is an extraordinary book about modern Judaism. It features one hundred portraits of rabbis that span the globe and the ideological spectrum, from youthful Orthodox communal leaders to pillars of contemporary Reform Judaism, portraying today's Jewish leaders, and Judaism itself, in its diversity and dimensions. Keepers of the flame of Judaism, these are people who are working in the twenty-first century but are deeply aware of their religious legacy. Some of the rabbis included in the book are: Rabbi Eric Yoffie, who was named the number one Jewish leader in America in The Forward in November 2001; Rabbi Eugene Borowitz, a well-known political activist and founder of a popular New York synagogue; Shmuley Boteach, author of Kosher Sex and a fixture on talk shows and in the media; Norman Lamm, outgoing president of Yeshiva University; Ismar Schorsch, chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary; David Wolpe, author of Making Loss Matter: Creating Meaning in Difficult Times, and other books; Laura Geller, Senior rabbi, Temple Emanuel, Beverly Hills, Calif.; Irving "Yitz" Greenberg, theologian and former chair of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, and Harold Kushner, author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People. The book also includes Rabbi Sally Priesand, America's first woman rabbi, and Rabbi Yosef Hadana, the first Ethiopian rabbi. Chosen for the rabbis' wide range of beliefs and interests, the people here represent the rabbinate as the rich, hard-to-define, impossible-to-categorize world that it is. Their life stories, which describe their coming to grips with their religion, are brilliantly articulated, filling the book with inspirational messages and spiritual guidance for all people-- not only for members of the Jewish faith but for people of all faiths and beliefs. The photographs were taken by George Kalinsky, the official photographer at Madison Square Garden for more than thirty years. He has authored seven books, and his photos have appeared in numerous publications including Time, Life, People, Esquire, New York, Sports Illustrated, and Newsweek.

The Many Faces Of Judaism

The Many Faces Of Judaism by Lemuel Baker Phd, The Many Faces Of Judaism Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Many Faces Of Judaism books, Over the past 10 years there has been a keen interest in Jewish Studies as it relates to Christianity and I wanted to help bring authentic information regarding Judaism to several audiences that will bring each from a near ideologue to ideologues. As I traveled I noticed some people were familiar with terms from Judaism but did not know the meaning of the terms, traditions or protocols. I hope to lay a foundation of Judaism with Christians, media professionals and those who serve politically. There are several compelling reasons to present Judaism to an audience that are interested in the Jewish roots of the Christian Bible. There is an apologetic perspective whereby many Christians have nagging questions about the Bible and even frustrated regarding where to find the actual answers. This book provides many of those answers. God requires all Christians to have understanding about Christianity and the belief system they adhere to. The answers to Judaism as it pertains to our Old and New Testament are not obvious and require a command of Judaism to include the Tanakh and the Talmud that provide answers and explanations of what the Old and New Testaments are really saying. Any person who reads this 179 page book will have a command of Judaism and how it relates to Christianity that is above average and will also have an authentic perspective not a romantic perspective. Christianity without realizing it can push Jews far from them especially Orthodox Jews because we do not understand their scheme of thinking and how esoteric their beliefs are. To connect with Jews one must understand how they think and find the wisdom regarding their beliefs and values. The book is powerful and will provide insight as to Israel and their raison d etre or the purpose that justifies a things existence. Israel was designed to be a leadership nation to the entire world and is still in birth pains with regards to this God ascribed objective. To give you a hint to some of the conclusions I will share this much with you. God has given every people group a purpose in relationship to the entire world to make a unique contribution. The ancient Phoenicians contributed mathematics for example that benefited the entire planet. The Greeks contributed literature that are still beloved writings of antiquity for the entire planet to enjoy. Israel is the only nation and people group given the two-fold objective to receive the law directly from God and secondly to disseminate Gods law to the entire planet. These laws are the only laws that could keep the planet sound and congruent to Gods system and His way of doing things. In the midst of this two-fold purpose God chose Israel to bring forth our Messiah. Only Israel was set aside to bring forth Messiah who would save the entire world. If it werent for Judaism there would be no Christianity. The Christian Old Testament is translated verbatim from the Tanakh or the Jewish Bible in a different sequence but the books are the same. I have given you much from the book already but there is a lot more so enjoy the book and may God answer many of your questions.

The Many Faces Of Herod The Great

The Many Faces Of Judaism by Adam Kolman Marshak, The Many Faces Of Herod The Great Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Many Faces Of Herod The Great books, An old, bloodthirsty tyrant hears from a group of Magi about the birth of the Messiah, king of the Jews. He vengefully sends his soldiers to Bethlehem with orders to kill all of the baby boys in the town in order to preserve his own throne. For most of the Western world, this is Herod the Great -- an icon of cruelty and evil, the epitome of a tyrant. Adam Kolman Marshak portrays Herod the Great quite differently, however, carefully drawing on historical, archaeological, and literary sources. Marshak shows how Herod successfully ruled over his turbulent kingdom by skillfully interacting with his various audiences -- Roman, Hellenistic, and Judaean -- in myriad ways. Herod was indeed a master in political self-presentation. Marshak's fascinating account chronicles how Herod moved from the bankrupt usurper he was at the beginning of his reign to a wealthy and powerful king who founded a dynasty and brought ancient Judaea to its greatest prominence and prosperity.

The Many Faces Of Christology

The Many Faces Of Judaism by Tyron Inbody, The Many Faces Of Christology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Many Faces Of Christology books, The Many Faces of Christology surveys the landscape of traditional and contemporary thought about Jesus. Inbody first grounds his survey in a concise discussion of research into Jesus as a historical person and explores the implications and relevance of that research for contemporary christological thought. In chapter two he outlines classical christology and trinitarian thought and then provides a preliminary sketch of a contemporary trinitarian christology that emphasizes relationship more than understanding the exact nature of God. In chapters three, four, and five, Inbody surveys the basic positions and contributions of evangelical, liberal/process and postliberal (including liberationist), and feminist/womanist christologies. In his final three chapters, Inbody uses christology to answer three key questions: -- Is atonment theology nothing more than "divinely sanctioned abuse?" -- What is the relationship of Christianity to Judaism? -- Is Christianity the one true path? This critical, mainstream survey provides pastors and seminarians an authoritative and comprehensive volume on the subject.

The Many Faces Of Slavery

The Many Faces Of Judaism by Lawrence Aje, The Many Faces Of Slavery Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Many Faces Of Slavery books, While the plantation accounts for 90% of slave ownership and experience in the Americas, its centrality to the common conceptions of slavery has arguably led to an oversimplified understanding of its multifarious forms and complex dynamics in the region. The Many Faces of Slavery explores non-traditional forms of slavery that existed outside the plantation system to illustrate the pluralities of slave ownership and experiences in the Americas, from the 17th to the 19th century. Through a wide range of innovative and multi-disciplined approaches, the book's chapters explore the existence of urban slavery, slave self-hiring, quasi-free or nominal slaves, domestic slave concubines, slave vendors, slave soldiers and sailors, slave preachers, slave overseers, and many other types of “societies with slaves.” Moreover, it documents unconventional forms of slave ownership like slave-holding by poor whites, women, free blacks, Native Americans, Jewish Americans, corporations and the state. The Many Faces of Slavery broadens our traditional conception of slavery by complicating our understanding of slave experience and ownership in slavery-practising societies throughout Atlantic history.

The Political Right In Israel

The Many Faces Of Judaism by Dani Filc, The Political Right In Israel Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Political Right In Israel books, This book takes a fresh look at the trajectories of Israeli politics since the election of Likud in 1977, examining how right wing parties have adopted populist policies in order to carve out an identity and win support at the polls. As such it demonstrates how populism has become a hugely significant factor in shaping Israeli politics and society. The original perspective taken by the author allows for an understanding of the central phenomena of the contemporary political system in Israel, such as the Likud's party centrality in Israeli politics, the political force of the religious Shas party and the growing influence of certain political leaders. Through this innovative analysis of the concept of populism, the book contributes to a better understanding of the Israeli political system. With Israel playing such a central role in the Middle East conflict, this analysis of the ways in which populism contributes to the consolidation of governing political forces in Israel will allow for a better understanding of this conflict. Combining the theoretical elaboration of the concept of populism with its application in the analysis of a specific test-case, this novel approach contributes to the ongoing research on populist politics, and as such will be a useful tool for understanding many issues in the study of populism, comparative politics and the Middle East.

The Many Faces Of Germany

The Many Faces Of Judaism by John A. McCarthy, The Many Faces Of Germany Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Many Faces Of Germany books, With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the shifting of American foreign policy away from "old" Europe, long-established patterns of interaction between Germany and the U.S. have come under review. Although seemingly disconnected from the cultural and intellectual world, political developments were not without their influence on the humanities and their curricula during the past century. In retrospect, we can speak of the many different roles Germany has played in American eyes. The Many Faces of Germany seeks to acknowledge the importance of those incarnations for the study of German culture and history on both sides of the Atlantic. One of the major questions raised by the contributors is whether the transformations in the transatlantic dynamics and in the importance of Germany for the U.S. have had a major influence on the study of things German in the U.S. internally. The volume gathers together leading voices of the older and younger generations of social historians, literary scholars, film critics, and cultural historians.
