Artist Alphabet

by Jerry Kelly, Artist Alphabet Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Artist Alphabet books, Over the past quarter century, calligraphy and the lettering arts have enjoyed a renaissance all across America. As the century closes, it seems both appropriate and timely for Godine to join forces with the Society of Scribes (who will be marking their twenty-fifth anniversary) and the AIGA to assemble, exhibit, and illustrate the work of the calligraphers who have made major contributions to the field and whose work, in the opinion of their peers, is consistently outstanding. Here, then, is a book presenting a century of scribes, representing 140 examples of their best work, and displaying the taste, variety and vitality of the lettering arts in this country over the past century. The greats are all here, from Arnold Bank, John Howard Benson, and W. A. Dwiggins to Alexander Zanetti and Hermann Zapt (whose influence is so pervasive and whose American contacts so legion that it would have been criminal to omit him). Between are examples with 96 specimens illustrated in full color and 47 in black and white, of the very best this country has produced.

Die Externsteine In Der Kunstvermittlung

by Larissa Eikermann, Die Externsteine In Der Kunstvermittlung Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.

The Fundamental Right To Data Protection

by Maria Tzanou, The Fundamental Right To Data Protection Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Fundamental Right To Data Protection books, Since the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, data protection has been elevated to the status of a fundamental right in the European Union and is now enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights alongside the right to privacy. This timely book investigates the normative significance of data protection as a fundamental right in the EU. The first part of the book examines the scope, the content and the capabilities of data protection as a fundamental right to resolve problems and to provide for an effective protection. It discusses the current approaches to this right in the legal scholarship and the case-law and identifies the limitations that prevent it from having an added value of its own. It suggests a theory of data protection that reconstructs the understanding of this right and could guide courts and legislators on data protection issues. The second part of the book goes on to empirically test the reconstructed right to data protection in four case-studies of counter-terrorism surveillance: communications metadata, travel data, financial data and Internet data surveillance. The book will be of interest to academics, students, policy-makers and practitioners in EU law, privacy, data protection, counter-terrorism and human rights law.

Arshile Gorky

by Harry Rand, Arshile Gorky Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Arshile Gorky books, Harry Rand's critically acclaimed study of Gorky's brief, troubled life and artistic development is finally available in paperback. All of Gorky's major themes are touched on and his major paintings dealt with in some depth, with attention to the details of the individual works, and frequently to the drawings and preliminary studies from which the paintings evolved. The discussion centers on the images that united the pieces as they develop from work to work. Rand explores Gorky as well as possible sources and their relationship to the body of Gorky's art. A concluding chapter reassesses Gorky's impact on the New York School in light of a new understanding of his aims and methods. Through close study of Gorky's oeuvre, the author deciphers an iconography revealing the unexpected and systematic use of explicit ideas and symbols as well as commonplace objects, settings, and personas from the artist's life. Art Smith

by Rachel Sherwood Roberts, Art Smith Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Art Smith books, By 1915, pioneer aviator Art Smith was as celebrated as any movie star might be today. He thrilled audiences with his barnstorming feats, doing "death spirals," sky writing, "loop-the-loops," and night flights using phosphorus fireworks. He was a consummate showman and had he not died in 1926, his name probably would be familiar to most Americans. He glamorized and popularized aviation while testing the boundaries of aeronautical principles. As a boy he longed to fly before he had ever seen an airplane. His parents believed in him, and he was fortunate to have a best friend named Al Wertman who helped him build an airplane. His fame spread around the globe and in 1916, the Japanese offered him $10,000 for a series of exhibitions. His flying skills inspired a young Wiley Post to a life of aviation. After Smith's death, when Lindbergh flew over Fort Wayne and dipped his wings, he gave credit to the "Bird Boy" Art Smith. The story of this rising star in American aviation is one of adventure, romance, scandal and history. Using Smith's own autobiographical writings, the story is also a factual account of events in early aviation. The book includes photographs and postcards in Art Smith's own handwriting mailed to Al Wertman.

Issues In Curating Contemporary Art And Performance

by Judith Rugg, Issues In Curating Contemporary Art And Performance Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Issues In Curating Contemporary Art And Performance books, Issues in Curating Contemporary Art and Performance proposes that the concept of curating is a complex field of enquiry. By drawing together artists, curators, architects and cultural theorists, it proposes new approaches to curating and ways of developing critical enquiry about this increasingly expanding field. Focusing on pertinent issues in curating contemporary art and performance, the book's four parts examine forms of thinking in contemporary curating; curating and the interdisciplinary; as intervention and contestation; as a form of reconsideration of conventional museum spaces and as a problematic in 'emerging' practices. Beginning with a contextual 'map' of recent thinking on curating which examines some of the issues that have emerged in curatorial discourse over the last ten years, the volume then investigates curating as a research process and a form of collaboration in considering contemporary photography and video. The relationships between writing and curating, reception and encounter is proposed as part of a way of thinking as a critical spatial practice, and cross-disciplinary issues are considered in curating science / art exhibitions. Historical and contemporary perspectives examine issues of gender and marginalisation and diversity; and the particular issues relating to curating and practices such as animation, site-specific dance and computer-based work are discussed.
