At the beginning of a new millennium, and in an era marked as one of globalization, Europe continues to wrestle with the issue of national identity, especially in the context of its Muslim citizens. Muslim Europe or Euro-Islam brings together distinguished scholars from Europe, the United States, and the Middle East in a dynamic discussion about the Muslim populations living in Europe and about Europe's role in framing Islam today. Working at the knotty intersection of cultural identity, the politics of nations and nationalisms, and religious persuasions, this is an invaluable anthology of scholarship that reveals the multifaceted natures of both Europe and Islam.

Muslim Identity In The Era Of Globalization

by Carina Zimmermann, Muslim Identity In The Era Of Globalization Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Muslim Identity In The Era Of Globalization books, Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Sociology - Religion, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Fulda, language: English, abstract: Constructing an identity today is complicated by the nature of our postmodern world we live in but more significant than ever. For most people it is very important to identify oneself with at least one aspect like nationality, ethnicity or religion. Identity could determine the position which one has in society, depending on the country one live in. Finding one's identity can be very challenging. Many people struggle with the notion of their identity, especially minority groups like Muslims living in the "Secular World" asking themselves "Who am I?" Moreover the globalization led to significant changes in the Islamic world and within an Identity crisis. In this paper I will focus on the following questions: What is the link between Islam and identity? What exactly is a Muslim Identity? As Muslims are coming from different countries, ethnics and different groups (Sunnis, Shiites and so on) can we talk about Muslims as a collective group or is there a Global Muslim Identity? And when how is this type of identity created?

Malaysia In The Era Of Globalization

by Mohammad Bakri Musa, Malaysia In The Era Of Globalization Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Malaysia In The Era Of Globalization books, Bakri Musa makes a persuasive argument for Malaysia to embrace globalization with conviction. It is the ticket to her Vision 2020 aspirations. Malaysia was well on her way to join the global mainstream when the 1997 economic crisis interrupted that trajectory. It is now time, the writer passionately pleads, to return to that path. Yes there are sandbars and reefs, together with the inevitable storms and swells in the ocean of globalization. This calls for skillful navigators and sailors ready to trim the sails and batten the hatches. The alternative would be to remain in port, not an attractive option. The writer offers specific prescriptions on how best to meet those challenges, from enhanced health care to superior education system, and by exposing Malaysians to greater competition. As Islam is a pervasive influence in Malaysia, the writer calls for an enlightened interpretation of the faith, one more in tune with its ideals of tolerance for diversity, reverence for learning, and a passion for trade. The writer draws lessons from as far away as Argentina and as far back as the ancient Muslims, and from sociology to biology. The perspectives offered here are refreshing departures from the wisdom currently emanating from Kuala Lumpur.

Jewish Muslim Relations

by Abdullah Craig Walker, Jewish Muslim Relations Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Jewish Muslim Relations books, Jewish-Muslim Relations - A Qur'anic View is a well-researched critical study of the history of Jewish-Muslim relations beginning with Islam's first contact with Judaism in Medina in the 7th century, through the present era of globalization. The authors' acknowledged purpose is to reveal how, “The concept that enmity between Jews and Muslims is a religious tenet in Islam is fraudulent, and debases the Holy Qur'an as well as the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).” To this end, the book explores the unity of faith at the heart of Judaism and Islam, and articulates the common historical and theological ground shared by the two religions. It goes on to show how religious extremists and political demagogues, both Muslim and non-Muslim, have referenced Qur'anic verses out of context to support anti-Semitic views, while ignoring the fundamental precepts of the Qur'an and the Hadith (i.e. the recorded words and deeds of the Prophet). The book analyzes the commentaries in the Qur'an critical of Jews that pertain to three wars that occurred in the 7th century between Medina's Muslim, Arab and Jewish tribes. And, it examines the legendary "Constitution of Medina", authored by Prophet Mohammad (pbuh), which introduced the principles of egalitarian governance for the first time in Arabia. The book also explores the contributions of Islamic scholars and jurists to Muslim-Jewish relations during the era of Muslim ascendancy, with focus upon the rules of governance relating to non-Muslims in regions ruled by Muslims. The historical sweep of this book includes an analysis of the emergence of sectarianism and anti-Semitism in Arab Muslim societies that occurred following the passing of the Islamic Golden Age in the 13th century. And, it examines Islamist narratives that evolved later in Muslim-majority societies during their struggle for independence from colonial rule. The book concludes with an analysis of militant Islamist supremacism that has emerged in many Muslim-majority societies in the present era of globalization that persists in trying to link Islam to a false anti-Semitic narrative.

Islam And Its Challenges In The Globalised World

by Ahmad Akil bin Muda, Islam And Its Challenges In The Globalised World Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Islam And Its Challenges In The Globalised World books, From the beginning, Islam faces many challenges from its foes, that is, the disbelievers-atheism, Jews and Christians, secularism, liberalism, pluralism, etc.-who want to extinguish Islam and its foundation from this world. Since the fall of the Islamic empire in the fifteenth century, Muslim countries pathetically came under the dominance of Western powers in almost every aspect of life. The United States of America and other powers foreign policies generally have hidden agenda to weaken the Muslim countries so that they can keep on dominating the Muslim world. They give support to the secularist, liberalist, and pluralist groups in the Muslim countries to go against the Islamic traditionalists and fundamentalists. Although there are more than a billion Muslims in the world, they are weak and have become marginalized. Gone is the power of the Muslims of the past. Therefore, the contemporary Muslims have no choice but to wake up to face the challenge if they are genuine Muslims because they are the best ummah ever created by Allah. During the height of Islamic empire, Islam stayed strong and kept on spreading its wing throughout the world because of charismatic and credibility some of its leaders. Islam is a universal religion that brought enlightenment to human race. Nevertheless, Muslim nations in the modern era of globalized world are disobedient lot unlike the Muslims of the past; thus they become weak. Globalization is the creation of the Western imperialists as a tool to control world trade and economy of other nations. Small and underdeveloped nations are often unfairly treated. The polarization and bloody borders between the Christians West and the Muslims are now become more transparent than ever before. The wounds inflicted by the Americans and the West in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and others are still bleeding and bloody. The usage of the words such as Islamophobia and the Muslims as terrorist frequently propagated throughout the world against Islam, thereby affecting the feeling of friendly and moderate Muslims in general. The cruelties inflicted on many of the innocent Muslims directly or indirectly give a green light for some hardcore Muslims to retaliate in a more radical way, including suicide bombing. The difference perception of faith, moral character, social, ethic, economy, politics, law, etc., in Islam with other religions are wide apart. Islam is a religion of Oneness of God (Islamic Monotheism) whilst the others are not. Islam taught the Muslims to live side by side in co-existence and in peace with the others provided there is a mutual respect with one another. Islam is a moderate religion. The whole universe and its contents absolutely belong only to Allah. Human race are His servants to take good care of the earth. Muslim ummah in the modern world miserably failed in their responsibilities in this world because most of them are lack of faith in Allah. They have deserted al-Quran and al-Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in their way of life. Nevertheless, ultimately near the end of the world the Muslims will win as promised by Allah although disbelievers do not believe it.

Philosophy Of Education In The Era Of Globalization

by Yvonne Raley, Philosophy Of Education In The Era Of Globalization Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Philosophy Of Education In The Era Of Globalization books, Terrorism, ethnocentrism, religious tension, competition over limited resources, war - these are just a few of the problems and challenges that have emerged in today's global economy. Globalization both implies and requires economic interdependence; and this should bring with it a heightened sense of the interconnectedness of the participating societies. But unfortunately, as recent events indicate, rather than our having formed a global community, today's society is more fragmented than ever. In light of this, education faces some formidable new challenges. How do we prepare future citizens for the world they will live in? How do we teach future generations to embrace the paradox of accepting the value of multiculturalism despite the conflicts it has produced? How do we instill religious tolerance in a time when fundamentalism has become inextricably tied with terrorism? How do we promote economic growth in the face of overpopulation and its depletion of resources? The authors of this collection of essays explore these and related challenges, and they suggest some novel ways of dealing with them.

Download Africas Islamic Experiences History Culture And Politics books, "Africas Islamic Experiences- History, Culture, and Politics Edited by Ali A. Mazrui, Patrick M. Dikirr, Robert Ostergard Jr., Michael Toler & Paul Macharia This volume is rich in historic surprises about the fortunes of Islam in African experience, Islam first arrived in African while the Prophet Muhammad, the Founder of the religion, was still alive, Ethiopia provided asylum to early Arab Muslims on the run from persecution by fellow Arabs in pre-Islamic Mecca, Today Nigeria has more Muslims than any Arab country, including Egypt. This volume explores not just Islam's impact upon Africa but also Africa's impact on Muslim history. The book explores the geographical expansion of the religion, the revival of ancient Muslim rituals, and the politicization and radicalization of Islam in both colonial and pre-colonial Africa. Is Islam compatible with democracy? Can African Islam peacefully coexist with Christianity? How has Islam in Africa influenced architecture, Literature, race relations, gender relation, and cultural interpenetrations between Arabs and Black Africans? In this era of globalization is Islam a positive vanguard force or a trigger for parochialism and backward-looking nostalgia? In this era of terrorism and counter-terrorism can Islam be mobilized as a force for stability or has the religion been irretrievably hijacked by its own worst radicals? This volume does not try to answer all the questions, but it helps to lay the basic groundwork for understanding Islam much better in this new age.

Islam In Southeast Asia

by Hussin Mutalib, Islam In Southeast Asia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Islam In Southeast Asia books, Islam is a major religion in Southeast Asia, with Indonesian Muslims comprising the largest Muslim population in the world. Events and developments since 11 September 2001 have added greater attention to Islam and its adherents in this part of the world. This general survey of Islam in Southeast Asia is intended to inform, explain and update readers about the more significant aspects of Islam in Southeast Asia, then and now. These include the following: the geographical origins and sources by which the faith spread in this region; the social, economic and political profiles of the Muslim communities; relations between Muslims and non-Muslims and between Muslims and the State; the strands and trends that shapes the role of Islam and the Muslims in the national body politic; and the challenges confronting Muslims in confronting the vicissitudes of their lives in this era of rapid change, characterized by modernization, capitalism, secularization and globalization. The discussion will begin with an overview of the broad picture of Islam and the Muslims in the region as a whole, covering both Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority countries. This will be followed by case-study analysis of Islam and the Muslims in individual countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Given the difficulty of writing on such a complex and contentious topic, this book attempts to present the subject matter in a manner that is sufficiently objective to scholars and yet simple and accessible enough to be readily understood by ordinary readers.
