by Geoff Mayer, The Cinema Of Australia And New Zealand Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Cinema Of Australia And New Zealand books, From The Story of the Kelly Gang in 1906 to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Australia and New Zealand have made a unique impact on international cinema. This book celebrates the commercially successful narrative feature films produced by these cultures as well as key documentaries, shorts, and independent films. It also invokes issues involving national identity, race, history, and the ability of two small film cultures to survive the economic and cultural threat of Hollywood. Chapters on well known films and directors, such as The Year of Living Dangerously (Peter Weir, 1982), The Piano (Jane Campion, 1993), Fellowship of the Ring (Peter Jackson, 2001), and Rabbit Proof Fence (Philip Noyce, 2002), are included with less popular but equally important films and filmmakers, such as Jedda (Charles Chauvel, 1955), They're a Weird Mob (Michael Powell, 1966), Vigil (Vincent Ward, 1984), and The Goddess of 1967 (Clara Law, 2000).

Teaching Australian And New Zealand Literature

by Nicholas Birns, Teaching Australian And New Zealand Literature Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Teaching Australian And New Zealand Literature books, Australia and New Zealand, united geographically by their location in the South Pacific and linguistically by their English-speaking inhabitants, share the strong bond of hope for cultural diversity and social equality--one often challenged by history, starting with the appropriation of land from their Indigenous peoples. This volume explores significant themes and topics in Australian and New Zealand literature. In their introduction, the editors address both the commonalities and differences between the two nations' literatures by considering literary and historical contexts and by making nuanced connections between the global and the local. Contributors share their experiences teaching literature on the iconic landscape and ecological fragility; stories and perspectives of convicts, migrants, and refugees; and Maori and Aboriginal texts, which add much to the transnational turn. This volume presents a wide array of writers--such as Patrick White, Janet Frame, Katherine Mansfield, Frank Sargeson, Witi Ihimaera, Christina Stead, Allen Curnow, David Malouf, Les Murray, Nam Le, Miles Franklin, Kim Scott, and Sally Morgan--and offers pedagogical tools for teachers to consider issues that include colonial and racial violence, performance traditions, and the role of language and translation. Concluding with a list of resources, this volume serves to support new and experienced instructors alike.

For Isabelle, this case is already personal; for Alec his best intentions to keep it purely professional soon dissolve. A Companion To Philosophy In Australia And New Zealand

by Graham Oppy, A Companion To Philosophy In Australia And New Zealand Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Companion To Philosophy In Australia And New Zealand books, Philosophy in Australia and New Zealand has for some time now been experiencing something of a 'golden age'. The richness of Australasia's philosophical past, though less well known, should also not be forgotten. Australasian philosophy, although heavily indebted to overseas trends, includes much distinctive and highly original work. The Companion contains a wide range of articles contributed by prominent philosophers and scholars, and includes biographical essays on selected philosophers, topics and controversies, as well as shorter entries on associations, research centres, departments, journals, pedagogy, and international links. Important philosophical contributions made by those working outside of the academy are also included, along with philosophy's recent inroads into the wider community - in primary and secondary schools, community-based forums and 'philosophy cafes'. A Companion to Philosophy in Australia and New Zealand will provide scholars and the wider community, in Australia, New Zealand and beyond, with a greater appreciation of the philosophical heritage of this region, and will be a standard work of reference for many years to come. Foreword to the Revised Edition Soon after the original edition of The Companion to Philosophy in Australia and New Zealand was published in 2010 we noticed, or were made aware of, some significant omissions and errors. We therefore almost immediately embarked upon the present revised edition with the aim of correcting any errors and including some articles that did not make it into the first edition. In particular, articles on the following topics have now been added: Australian Aboriginal Philosophy; History and Philosophy of Science; and The Oxbridge Connection. Also, an Addendum has been added to the article on the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy. The generally favourable reception of the first edition gives us hope that the Companion will continue to serve as a useful and insightful guide for students and observers of philosophy in Australasia.

Powers Of Attorney In Australia And New Zealand

by Berna Collier, Powers Of Attorney In Australia And New Zealand Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Powers Of Attorney In Australia And New Zealand books, From a review in the Australian Law Journal:"This book is a delightful surprise, for within its bare title the authors have covered the law concerning powers of attorney on both sides of the Tasman. The text is written in a clear and lucid fashion. It is well laid out, and provides in convenient form the texts of the relevant legislation applying throughout Australia and in New Zealand. It provides an accurate summary of the law as applying at the end of 1992. The index is unusually comprehensive, and the coverage of this area of law is thoroughly professional. It should prove to be a most useful text for practitioners in areas of company law, probate, and family law who will appreciate the specimen forms and clauses offered. It is so wide in its potential utility that (given its sensible price) it should be on every solicitor's bookshelf."

English In Australia And New Zealand

by Kate Burridge, English In Australia And New Zealand Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download English In Australia And New Zealand books, English in Australia and New Zealand combines both theory and description, and introduces the major theoretical and methodical issues in modern linguistic study. It also provides an overview of the structure and history of the English language in its many varieties, especially those of Australia and New Zealand. The emphasis is on English as it is used everyday. Almost all the examples are drawn from culinary texts, spoken and written. These include cooking books throughout the centuries, food and wine magazines, and books about food, health, diet and even etiquette. The book integrates a synchronic and diachronic approach. A description of each aspect of present-day English - be it vocabulary, sounds, or grammar - is followed by a discussion of its historical development. The approach is purposefully eclectic and draws upon many different traditions and areas within linguistics. Each chapter concludes with a summary of points to remember, as well as practical exercises and questions for discussion.
