Ancient Forgiveness

by Charles L. Griswold, Ancient Forgiveness Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Ancient Forgiveness books, In this book, eminent scholars of classical antiquity and ancient and medieval Judaism and Christianity explore the nature and place of forgiveness in the pre-modern Western world. They discuss whether the concept of forgiveness, as it is often understood today, was absent, or at all events more restricted in scope than has been commonly supposed, and what related ideas (such as clemency or reconciliation) may have taken the place of forgiveness. An introductory chapter reviews the conceptual territory of forgiveness and illuminates the potential breadth of the idea, enumerating the important questions a theory of the subject should explore. The following chapters examine forgiveness in the contexts of classical Greece and Rome; the Hebrew Bible, the Talmud, and Moses Maimonides; and the New Testament, the Church Fathers, and Thomas Aquinas.

A Review On How An Ancient Forgiveness Way Called Ho Oponopono Can Boost Human Health And Immune System

by Victor Christianto, A Review On How An Ancient Forgiveness Way Called Ho Oponopono Can Boost Human Health And Immune System Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Review On How An Ancient Forgiveness Way Called Ho Oponopono Can Boost Human Health And Immune System books, In life, everyone goes through hurtful events caused by significant others: a deceiving friend, a betraying partner, or an unjustly blaming parent. In response to painful emotions, individuals may react with anger, hostility, and the desire for revenge. Experimental evidence suggests that when people are transgressed against interpersonally, they often react by experiencing unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is conceptualized as a stress reaction. As an alternative, they may decide to forgive the wrongdoer and relinquish resentment. Forgiveness is one (of many) ways people reduce unforgiveness. Forgiveness is conceptualized as an emotional juxtaposition of positive emotions (i.e., empathy, sympathy, compassion, or love) against the negative emotions of unforgiveness. Forgiveness can thus be used as an emotion-focused coping strategy to reduce a stressful reaction to a transgression. More evidences have shown that forgiveness can result in better health and boost human immune system. In this article, we discuss an ancient Hawaiian way of forgiveness, called Ho’oponopono. We hope this article may be found useful for healthcare practitioners and therapists as well.

The Forgiveness Of Sins

by Tim Carter, The Forgiveness Of Sins Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Forgiveness Of Sins books, In The Forgiveness of Sins, Tim Carter examines the significance of forgiveness in a New Testament context, delving deep into second-century Christian literature on sin and the role of the early church in mitigating it. This crucial spiritual issue is at the core of what it means to be Christian, and Carter's thorough and erudite examination of this theme is a necessity for any professional or amateur scholar of the early church. Carter's far-reaching analysis begins with St Luke, who is often accused of weakness on the subject of atonement, but who in fact uses the phrase 'forgiveness of sins' more frequently than any other New Testament author. Carter explores patristic writers both heterodox and orthodox, such as Marcion, Justin Martyr and Origen. He also deepens our understanding of Second Temple Judaism and the theological context in which Christian ideas about atonement developed. Useful to both the academic and the pastoral theologian, The Forgiveness of Sins is a painstaking, clear-eyed exploration of what forgiveness meant not only to early Christians such as Tertullian, Irenaeus and Luke, but to Jesus himself, and what it means to Christians today.

A Psychological Inquiry Into The Meaning And Concept Of Forgiveness

by Jennifer M. Sandoval, A Psychological Inquiry Into The Meaning And Concept Of Forgiveness Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Psychological Inquiry Into The Meaning And Concept Of Forgiveness books, This book explores the psychological nature of forgiveness for both the subjective ego and what Jung called the objective psyche, or soul. Utilizing analytical, archetypal, and dialectical psychological approaches, the notion of forgiveness is traced from its archetypal and philosophical origins in Greek and Roman mythology through its birth and development in Judaic and Christian theology, to its modern functional character as self-help commodity, relationship remedy, and global necessity. Offering a deeper understanding of the concept of "true" forgiveness as a soul event, Sandoval reveals the transformative nature of forgiveness and the implications this notion has on the self and analytical psychology.

Auch die Theologie hat sich in jüngster Zeit diesem Zusammenhang mit neuem Interesse zugewendet. Before Forgiveness

by David Konstan, Before Forgiveness Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Before Forgiveness books, In this book, David Konstan argues that the modern concept of interpersonal forgiveness, in the full sense of the term, did not exist in ancient Greece and Rome. Even more startlingly, it is not fully present in the Hebrew Bible, nor in the New Testament or in the early Jewish and Christian commentaries on the Holy Scriptures. It would still be centuries - many centuries - before the idea of interpersonal forgiveness, with its accompanying ideas of apology, remorse, and a change of heart on the part of the wrongdoer, would emerge. For all its vast importance today in religion, law, politics and psychotherapy, interpersonal forgiveness is a creation of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when the Christian concept of divine forgiveness was fully secularized. Forgiveness was God's province and it took a revolution in thought to bring it to earth and make it a human trait.

Verzeihung Denken

by Klaus-Michael Kodalle, Verzeihung Denken Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.

So Great A Salvation

by Jon C. Laansma, So Great A Salvation Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download So Great A Salvation books, This volume presents a dialogue between historians, exegetes, and theologians on the background and key themes of the atonement in Hebrews. Presenting a range of differing perspectives and contributing to the renewed conversation between biblical and theological scholarship, the argument is structured in two parts: contexts and themes within Hebrews. Focusing on atonement not only in the Old Testament but also in the Greco-Roman world, and touching on themes such as sacrifice, plight and solution, and faith, these contributions shed light on the concept of the atonement in a directly scriptural way. The whole is a definitive collection of studies on the atonement in Hebrews that will be of service well beyond the confines of Hebrews' specialists, a collection as important for what it says about the atonement and the 21st century church as for what it says about Hebrews.
