A Feminine Ending

A Feminine Ending by Sarah Treem, A Feminine Ending Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Feminine Ending books, Full Length, Dark Comedy 3m., 2f. Various, Unit set Amanda, twenty-five, wants to be a great composer. But at the moment, she's living in New York City and writing advertising jingles to pay the rent while her fianc, Jack, pursues his singing career. So when Amanda's mother, Kim, calls one evening from New Hampshire and asks for her help with something she can't discuss over the phone, Amanda is only too happy to leave New York. Once home, Kim reveals that she's leaving Amanda's father and needs help packing. Amanda balks and ends up (gently) hitting the postman, who happens to be her first boyfriend. They spend the night together in an apple orchard, where Amanda tries to tell Billy how her life got sidetracked. It has something to do with being a young woman in a profession that only recognizes famous men. Billy acts like he might have the answer, but doesn't. Neither does Amanda's mother. Or, for that matter, her father. A Feminine Ending is a gentle, bittersweet comedy about a girl who knows what she wants but not quite how to get it. Her parents are getting divorced, her fiance is almost famous, her first love reappears, and there's a lot of noise in her head but none of it is music. Until the end. Ending is a promising beginning...the playwright has a sense of humor that brings to mind a budding Wendy Wasserstein and a liberated sense of form that evokes a junior Paula Vogel.-Los Angeles Times Darkly comic. FEMININE ENDING has undeniable wit. -New York Post. Appealingly outlandish humor. -The New York Times. Courageous. The 90-minute piece swerves with nerve and naivete. Sarah Treem has a voice all her own. -Newsday.

A Feminine Ending by Saul H. Rosenthal, The Rules For The Gender Of French Nouns Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Rules For The Gender Of French Nouns books, Do you wonder why an arm is masculine while a leg is feminine? Why your sofa is masculine but your chair is feminine? And why should a person or victim always be feminine, even if the person or victim you're talking about happens to be a man? And isn't it odd that "masculinit" is feminine? The illogic of French gender can be very frustrating. But after reading this book, if you see words like "croisement, pays, vin, " or "chocolat, " you will instantly know they are masculine, and you will also immediately recognize that words like "ville, facture, maladie, " and "essence" are feminine.

Feminine Endings

A Feminine Ending by Susan McClary, Feminine Endings Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Feminine Endings books, When it was originally published in 1991, Feminine Endings was immediately controversial for its unprecedented intermingling of cultural criticism and musical studies, an approach that came to be called "the New Musicology." Through case studies of works ranging from the canonical -- operas by Monteverdi and Bizet -- to the contemporary -- the performance art of Diamanda Galas and popular songs by Madonna -- Susan McClary focuses on the ways music produces images of gender, desire, pleasure, and the body, and explores the gender-based metaphors that circulate in discourse about music. The now classic work features a new introduction that discusses the critical reception it received and the debates it has inspired.

Shakespeare S Feminine Endings

A Feminine Ending by Philippa Berry, Shakespeare S Feminine Endings Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Shakespeare S Feminine Endings books, Philippa Berry draws on feminist theory, postmodern thought and queer theory, to challenge existing critical notions of what is fundamental to Shakespearean tragedy. She shows how, through a network of images clustered around feminine or feminized characters, these plays 'disfigure' conventional ideas of death as a bodily end, as their figures of women are interwoven with provocative meditations upon matter, time, the soul, and the body. The scope of these tragic speculations was radical in Shakespeare's day; yet they also have a surprising relevance to contemporary debates about time and matter in science and philosophy.

Fulke Greville And The Culture Of The English Renaissance

A Feminine Ending by Russ Leo, Fulke Greville And The Culture Of The English Renaissance Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Fulke Greville And The Culture Of The English Renaissance books, Fulke Greville's reputation has always been overshadowed by that of his more famous friend, Philip Sidney, a legacy due in part to Greville's complex moulding of his authorial persona as Achates to Sidney's Aeneas, and in part to the formidable complexity of his poetry and prose. This volume seeks to vindicate Greville's 'obscurity' as an intrinsic feature of his poetic thinking, and as a privileged site of interpretation. The seventeen essays shed new light on Greville's poetry, philosophy, and dramatic work. They investigate his examination of monarchy and sovereignty; grace, salvation, and the nature of evil; the power of poetry and the vagaries of desire, and they offer a reconsideration of his reputation and afterlife in his own century, and beyond. The volume explores the connections between poetic form and philosophy, and argues that Greville's poetic experiments and meditations on form convey penetrating, and strikingly original contributions to poetics, political thought, and philosophy. Highlighting stylistic features of his poetic style, such as his mastery of the caesura and of the feminine ending; his love of paradox, ambiguity, and double meanings; his complex metaphoricity and dense, challenging syntax, these essays reveal how Greville's work invites us to revisit and rethink many of the orthodoxies about the culture of post-Reformation England, including the shape of political argument, and the forms and boundaries of religious belief and identity.

Feminine Endings

A Feminine Ending by Vernon Scannell, Feminine Endings Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Feminine Endings books, Vernon Scannell's witty and absorbing novel is set at Crackenthorpe Hall, a creative-writing centre in the North of England. A group of would-be poets of various ages, sexes and backgrounds arrive there to spend a week under the tutelage of two established poets. Some of the students are present for bizarre reasons unconnected with the art of poetry. The characterisation and plot are gripping but the novel is essentially a penetrating satire on the contemporary poetry scene and it includes brilliant parodies and pastiches of the work of many well-known literary figures of our time.

The Choreography Of Antony Tudor

A Feminine Ending by Rachel S. Chamberlain Duerden, The Choreography Of Antony Tudor Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Choreography Of Antony Tudor books, The Choreography of Antony Tudor: Focus on Four Ballets presents both an analytical overview of the ballets created for the stage by Antony Tudor and an in-depth critical analysis of four key works: Jardin aux Lilas (1936), Dark Elegies (1937), Pillar of Fire (1942), and The Leaves Are Fading (1975). Tudor was a British choreographer who spent a large part of his working life in the United States, and although he was not prolific in his output, his works include several masterpieces of twentieth-century ballet repertoire. Characteristic of his work is an exceptionally creative and sensitive relationship of choreography with music, a relationship different from that developed by his equally musical contemporary, George Balanchine, in that it privileges subtle layers of dramatic, often psychological, exposition as well as complex mythmical structures. Tudor's ballets invariably involve a psychological human dimension, even when there is no story as such, and it is these two strands - the musical and the dramatic - that the choreographer exploits with consummate skill in the best of his work.
